WVF PRESIDENT ATTENDS EUROTREFF IN STAVANGER, NORWAY

From 22 to 24 September, Dan-Viggo Bergtun, President of the World Veterans Federation, attended the Veteran Gathering, Eurotreff in Stavanger, Norway.

The Eurotreff is an old tradition for veterans from countries in the northern part of Scandinavia; to come together in the name of friendship across the borders. Over 160 veterans and relatives from United States, Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, Turkey and Norway participated.

The programme was very dense and included visits to monuments such as “Sverd I Fjell’’ (commemorative monument located in the Hafrsfjord neighborhood of Madla which commemorates the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord that took place there in the year 872) and memorials from WWII. A Wreath Laying Ceremony also took place in the United Nation Park of Bjerkreim. A church parade and a bilingual service for veterans were also held in the Stavanger Cathedral, a 900 years old cathedral.

Representatives from WVF Member Associations like All-Ukrainian Union of War Veterans (VSUV), Danish Veterans, Turkish Association of War Disabled Widows & Orphans and NVIO (Norway) also attended the meeting.

It was the occasion to state once again that we should be in the forefront in promoting and defending international peace and security and to be proactive in ensuring the health and wellbeing of veterans and victims of war.
