THE 2018 OBSERVANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPERS IN WARSAW

On 28 May, a  one-day conference was held in Warsaw as a second stage of the two-year project named «Warsaw UN Peace Operations Overview”. It was organized by the Warsaw Research Institute for Peace, the Institute of International Affairs of the University of Warsaw and the UN Peacekeeping Missions Veterans Association. 

 

Within the conference, two discussion panels were held. The topic of the first panel was “Peace operations in view of nowadays security challenges». The topic of the second one was ” Crisis of confidence in peace operations and possible courses of actions”

 

On 29 May, the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers Ceremony in Warsaw was organized by the UN Peacekeeping Missions Veterans Association with the support of the Ministry of National Defense. WVF Vice President Gen. Stanislaw Wozniak and representatives of UN peacekeeping veterans laid a wreath at the Memorial of the Fallen Polish Soldiers on Overseas Missions in Warsaw. The United Nations Secretary General’s Message for 2018 was read out and memorial candles were lit.   President of the Association of War Veterans and Former Political Prisoners Col. Ryszard Sobierajski with group veterans also took part in the observance.
